George Murphy (1835-1917)
A recent re-discovery in the Murphy (Ovens & US) family line. Emigrated to the United States c. 1855, joined the Union Army during the American Civil War and fought for three years in The Army of the Potomac. Some ongoing research in US national Archives shows that he also fought at Gettysburg where he was captured by Confederate forces and spent some time as a Prisoner of War. He survived the war and went on to become a policeman in Boston and later Truant Officer for the Boston Public School system. His story is coming soon - Autumn 2022 |
Louisiana & Texas
Another re-discovery is the Lynch Coveney family line of Tracton, Co. Cork. Catherine Lynch (1808-1880) and Batt Coveney (1800-1869) married c.1827 & emigrated with their seven children to New Orleans, Louisiana, United States c.1849. From these two natives of Tracton, some 158 plus descendants followed, forming part of the cultural & ethnic richness & diversity of today's United States. Their story is currently being researched and will be uploaded during Autumn/Winter 2022 |
